About

I'm Svend Madsen — a freelance Data/AI engineer located in Denmark. I combine 20+ years of data platforms and delivery with two years of intensive work in context engineering, vibe coding, and AI-assisted delivery.

Over more than two decades I've worked across data engineering, data platform delivery, product-facing roles, and finance-related systems — often where accuracy, governance, and clarity matter most.

Background

My career spans hands-on delivery and senior roles: building and maintaining data pipelines and warehouses, rolling out data solutions the business can rely on, and aligning technology with outcomes. I value plain explanations, documented design decisions, and incremental improvements over buzzwords.

Data engineering & platforms

Today I focus on Azure, SQL Server, and Microsoft Fabric — designing ETL/ELT flows, curated data layers, and operational patterns that scale with your organisation. I'm equally comfortable debugging a stubborn pipeline as I am sketching a target architecture for the next stage of growth.

Context engineering & vibe coding

For the last two years I have invested heavily in how modern teams actually write software with AI: the discipline people now call context engineering (curating prompts, repository and product context, tool choice, and review loops) and the day-to-day practice of vibe coding in environments like Cursor. The goal is shorter lead times from idea to running code, fewer throwaway spikes, and changes that remain understandable, testable, and portable when the model is no longer in the loop.

I apply the same standards I learned in regulated and data-heavy settings: small, reviewable steps; explicit assumptions; and honesty about where automation helps versus where human judgment is non-negotiable.

Danmarks Nationalbank

At Danmarks Nationalbank my work centred on product management and MSSQL development in a financial setting — balancing delivery priorities with stakeholder needs, while staying close to the database and implementation details. That mix still shapes how I work: outcome-focused, but grounded in what actually ships.

Startup experience

I also spent part of my journey in the startup world with MobilCash — moving fast, wearing multiple hats, and learning how product constraints and technical debt interact when you're building from zero.

Education

I hold an MSc in Engineering from DTU (Technical University of Denmark), which underpins a structured approach to problem-solving and systems thinking.

Personal

Outside client work I enjoy 3D printing — prototyping parts, small batch prints, and combining curiosity about materials with hands-on making. Family time and staying curious about tools and methods keep me grounded and constantly learning.
